Good Reasons For Etiquette Lessons For Kids

By Minnie Whitley

The importance of good relationships with people is very much underestimated nowadays. It is not unusual for friends to hate friends due to the smallest matters. Divorce between couples is also becoming a hot trend, from celebrities to the ordinary husband and wife. Parents have little time for their children, and children have no respect for their parents. All of these all root down to one cause which is the absence of etiquette lessons for kids.

Etiquette is a set of written or unwritten rules that govern how one should act in society. It had been a trend in Puritan 1500s to teach etiquette in children at school. They were taught a lot of things such as how to behave in a group, how to eat properly, how to address people who are in a superior position, and a lot of other things. While some of these rules are extremely outrageous, most of these have really instilled proper manners that allowed these young kids to grow up in fine ladies and gentlemen.

There are guidelines for almost all kind of situation. It does not really take a genius to figure all of these out, some are simply common sense. There are guidelines in using public utilities, guidelines in behaving in social functions.

Proper manners are first learned at home. Back in the Victorian era parents take pains to instill in their little children proper bearing. The usual schedule of a child back in those days include etiquette lessons. It is believed that the things that are taught the earliest last the longest, and they were right. Most kids back then acted all prim and proper, a far cry from the kids today.

Well, these are quite easy to say, but doing them is very, very hard. People live in times where none of these seem to matter. Like a paradigm shift, what really matters now is that one speaks his or her mind out, and manners are the least important.

The new generation has become ruthless. This is a very sad fact, but one can not deny the truth of it. Nowadays, people do not really care anymore whether they hurt someone along the way to their journey to the top. It seems that our way of thinking has shifted, and people relationships are less important than being rich.

Most adults now are workers first, parents second. They spend more time at the office than at home. They think more about all the pending tasks that needs to be done than to think about how their kids are actually doing. To be able to compensate, most just decide to let their offspring take etiquette sessions.

These sessions will allow your children to interact well with others. They will be taught how to speak well and choose their words carefully. They will be taught how to behave in public. The kids will be given a chance to assess their behavior towards others and determine which ones needed to change and which ones needed to be improved upon.

Soon, you will see an improvement in the way your child interacts with others. These sessions help cure rude behavior by instilling replacement behavior that are much more acceptable. A well mannered child will grow up to be a responsible adult.
