Technology Grants Can Be Obtained For Many Reasons

By Patty Goff

When you have that one brilliant idea, it would be nice to know somebody will back you. Technology grants are there to help one to fund a certain type of project. Technology is defined as the collection of tools, machinery as well as modifications and arrangements that are used by humans. This can be either an art or a skill. It can include construction, medical or information technology.

One will need to enlist the help of others so that the goals set out can be achieved and those that are willing to help are actively involved in the project. Meet with the supervisor or principal so that the full plan can be explained and discussed so there will be no misunderstandings. If the plan is implemented one will need to know who will be effected by the project, for example the teachers or different departments.

The final proposal should have a covering letter on either the school or the organizations letterhead. The principal or head of department will need to be the one to sign. There should be a title and a brief outline of the project as well as the amount that will be required. Any contact information will need to be written down as well. One must remember to include reference to the "Grant making Policies" and clearly state that they are understood and will be complied with.

Once a funder has been found present the plan and ask if they are able and willing to help. Different funders prefer to receive the application for grants in different ways. Some will issue a request for proposal or RFP and will expect a response within a certain time frame. This is a solicitation made by a bidding process either by a company or agency that is interested in procurement of a service, asset or commodity.

Each year grants are given by governments, private foundations and public corporations to individuals, organizations and schools for certain projects. These funds do not have to be returned as long as they are used for what they were intended for. A grant proposal needs to be filled out in order to receive financial help.

When the budget is submitted one must use the Foundations own budget and financial report template. All expenses must be defined and all categories need to have detailed subcategories as well. If the proposal is accepted annual reports will need to be submitted as well.

Many Foundations are more than willing to give grants to those outside the country. The applications are allowed to be filled out online and once they have been received the request will be reviewed. The grant amount will vary according to what the project entails. Grants that are not usually given are generally those that have something to do with lobbying activities, annual campaigns or political purposes.

Once the technology grant has been accepted one will need to find out what formal reports will need to be submitted. Keep updating them on the progress of the project and if possible send pictures or quotations so they are able to see what influence their funding is having. Let others know about the support that has been received but be aware of guidelines.
