One of the most crucial investments one can make is education. This high level importance comes with high costs too. Learning is very costly and therefore not all can afford it. Without any form of help majority of people would not have the ability to read and write at all. Mostly the poor and middle class population is affected by these high costs.Below are main Problems With Public Education.

The need to solve this problem gives rise to the idea of public education. This is a school system that is free of charge to its scholars. The state, province or country manages the costs of the learning process. This education is usually made mandatory for particular age brackets of the population. As much as so much is done to ensure the success of this program, it still has major shortcomings.

First and foremost is the issue of discipline. This is the major un-doing of majority of public schools. With rampant cases of in disciplinary cases each day it is hard to have a good learning environment. This problem is worsened by the limitation of authority of the teachers in school. These students no longer have respect for their teachers which makes teaching almost impossible.

Another major shortcoming of these schools is the existence of unions. Unions of teachers do this system a very big disservice in the long run. These unions not only shelter the incompetent and lazy teachers but also discourage the tenacious ones. These teachers performance is not up to the required standards and keeps the students at a back lag. The removal of these unions and employment of serious teachers can bring the system to light.

They also experience a problem of bulk in activities despite the limited resources. These schools offer a wide variety of learning activities within a limited time frame. Hence very minimal time is left to practice the basics of education which are most crucial. This together with the large enrollment and minimal teaching resources makes accomplishment hard. Due to this many students are well versed at so much but unable to read or write properly.

This system also puts too much concern on age as a classing module. Students are put into classes with age as a distinguishing factor as opposed to the use of skill and ability. This again creates a major problem as pupils end up in classes but without the necessary skills and abilities to keep up with the academia of the class. This is a major headache cause for the teachers.

Lack of adequate competition amongst students in these schools is another problem. This is caused by the teachers who not only tolerate but also encourage mediocre performance. This denies the slow students the motivation to work harder. It also makes the brilliant students to not work for the best. This lack of competition and desire for better is a major setback in these public schools. Competition is a healthy aspect of learning and growing environment.

Rules and regulations in these schools do not hold as they should too. Majority of students do as they please and go without any reprimand. In conclusion therefore as much as public schools have improved literacy levels, there still is a lot to be done. This is if they desire to create productive citizens.
